Along with entertainment, it has been the means of communication, information, education, and mirror of society.  A coin has two sides, a good and a bad, Indian cinema has contributed to both. For the sake of good, it has made films like Padman, Toilet; ek Prem Katha and many that have contributed to society in changing their conception. But, it has led to new crimes as well. Bollywood is the largest sector of the Indian film industry and represents 43% of box office revenue, Tamil and Telugu film industries share 36% revenue, and the rest by other film industries. The enterprises of Indian cinema are Eros International, Pictures, Yash Raj Films, AGS Entertainment, Geetha Arts, Zee, Mythri Movie Makers, UTV, AVM Productions, Suresh Productions, and Aascar Films.


Around a hundred years ago, when India's film industry commenced. First film in Indian cinema was Raja Harishchandra, a silent film, featuring Dattatraya Damodar Dabke, Anna Salunke, Bhalchandra Phalke, and Gajanan Vasudev Sane. It was directed and produced by "The Father of Indian Cinema", Dada Saheb Phalke.


Indian cinema comprises a wide range of films in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Assamese, Kannada, Bhojpuri, Marathi, Malayalam, Gujarati and many more. 

Hollywood has inspired worldwide to adopt a name for their film industry based on the name of a region or state. So following are some different film industries of India of various regions, hope you'll love to go through the versatile industries of Indian cinema.


BOLLYWOOD

Bollywood is known as Hindi cinema and produces Hindi language films. It is based in Mumbai. It covers 43% of box office revenue. Bollywood tried its best to empower women, and made movies like Mother India, English Vinglish, Mardana, Mom, Manikarnika, Mary Kom, Neerja that shows that women can do everything. 

Bollywood's movies have become pretty famous not only in India, but many Asian countries, the Middle East, and Africa.

Indian army, air force, navy is the epitome of dedication and duty towards the nation. Some inspiring movies that showcase the life of soldiers are Shershah, URI: the surgical strike, LOC: kargil war, Border, Lakshya, Holiday, Parmanu: the story of Pokhran, etc. 

When we say romantic movies, King Khan is the first one to appear in our mind. So some enthralling movies that showcase King Khan are Dilwale dulhania le jayenge, Kabhi khushi kabhi gham, Kuch kuch hota hai, Main hoon na, Rab ne bana di jodi, Devdas, Ashoka and there's a never ending list.


TOLLYWOOD

Tollywood is associated with Telugu film industry. It is dedicated towards the production of movies in Telugu language, widely spoken in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. Some highest grossing Telugu films are Bahubali: the beginning, Bahubali: the conclusion, Saaho, Pushpa: the rise, Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo, Sarileru Neekevaru etc.


POLLYWOOD

Pollywood is Punjabi film industry. It is based in Mohali and Amritsar.

Some highest grossing Punjabi movies are Carry on Jatta 2, Shadaa, Honsla Rakh, Sardaar ji, Chal Mera Putt 2, etc. 


CHOLLYWOOD

Chollywood is Chattisgarh film industry. The first Chattisgarh movie was made in 1965, Kahi debe sandes and bombed the box office. The next movie was Ghar Dwar made in 1971, it was moderately successful. Then, directly in 2000 a movie  named Mor Chaiyan Bhuiyan was released and, it was commercially a successful movie of Chattisgarh. In between 1971 and 2000 not a single Chattisgarhi movie was made.

Chollywood didn't turn out to be very successful. Now, it is gasping for breath. 


KOLLYWOOD

Kollywood is also known as the Tamil film industry. It is a segment of Indian cinema based on Tamil language. It is based in Chennai, Kodambakkam in the neighborhood, thus named as Kollywood. Some hit tamil movies are Darbar, Pattas, Naan Sirithal, Psycho, Pariyerum Perumal, Jai Bhim, Anbe Sivam, Thevar Magan, etc.


MOLLYWOOD

Mollywood is also known as the Malayalam film industry or Cinema of Kerala, based in the southern state of Kerala. Malayalam films are known for their cinematography and story-driven realistic plots. Some hit Malayalam movies are Lucifer, Pulimurugan, Marakkar: the lion of Arabian Sea, M adhura raja, Sandesham, Kireedam, etc.


JOLLYWOOD

Jollywood is the film industry in Assamese language. Jyoti Chitrabhan film studio named the Assam film industry as "Jollywood". All-time hit Assamese movies are Ratnakar, Kanchanjangha, Mission China, Raamdhenu, Tumi Aahibane, Priyar Priyo.


OLLYWOOD

Ollywood is the Orissa film industry or Odia film industry, it is the Odia language Indian film industry. Suna Panjuri, Sita Bibaha, Agastya, Balunga Toka, Shesha Shrabana, Shree, etc.


DHOLLYWOOD

Gujarat film industry is known as Dhollywood. During silent film era, most of the people were Gujaratis. 

Gujju Bhai the great, Chello Divas, Reva, Sharato Lagu, Golkeri, Dhunki, Hellaro, Shubh Aarambh, etc. 


Language might be different but the source of entertainment, knowledge, and information has been the same for everyone.
