 OVERVIEW OF SEVEN SISTERS OF INDIA


During independence, initially there were three states, Assam, Manipur and Tripura, but later in 1963, Nagaland was formed, in 1972 Meghalaya was formed, and in 1987 Arunachal Pradesh and Mizoram.

The neighboring states of Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland and Tripura are known as the seven sisters.

These states acquired the name "SEVEN SISTERS '' due to their interdependence on each other. These states are connected to India through the Siliguri corridor and that's the only way to reach the Seven Sister States.

The seven sisters are inhabited by different cultures, traditions, festivals and religions thus, it attracts explorers and young travelers from all over the world.

ASSAM


Do you know before Dispur, the capital of Assam was Shillong, which is now the capital of Meghalaya?

Assam is a land of lush green wild forests, charming rivers and acres of tea plantations. This beautiful and pristine location will surely allure anyone.

Everyone must have read about different festivals of India in the G.K book, one of them is Bihu. This is celebrated three times a year. Women wear traditional dresses of Assam, mekhla and dance to the tunes of drums. Again, through your G.K book, you must have come to know about one of the popular National parks of India, Kaziranga National park famous for one horned rhinos. 


MEGHALAYA


Meghalaya is known as the "abode of clouds". It was formed by carving out two states of Assam.  Mountains, rainfall, double-decker bridges, caves, waterfalls and its festivals are some  beautiful things  this place is famous for. 

One of the liveliest and spirited festivals of Meghalaya is Ka Pomblang Nongkrem. It is celebrated to obtain a prosperous harvest.

After visiting this place you'll not feel like going back.


TRIPURA


The smallest state in the Seven Sisters is Tripura. This place cohabitates a variety of tribes, cultures and traditions.   Ashokashtmi is one of the popular and joyous festivals of Tripura. The worshipers take blessings from God and goddesses, then take a holy dip in ashtami kund river.

Tripura is famous for its bamboo dance, hills, ancient temples, rich flora and fauna and archaeological sites.


MIZORAM


Mizoram lies in the southernmost part of northeast India and is famous for its dense bamboo forests. It's an ideal destination for wildlife photographer due to its enriched wildlife.

Champai is a serene and tranquil town in Mizoram, also known as "rice bowl of Mizoram".

One of the popular festivals celebrated in Mizoram in month of March is Chapchar kut. This festival shows the harvesting, cultivating and drying process of bamboos.


ARUNACHAL PRADESH


The land of rising sun, Arunachal Pradesh  has various breathtaking spots to visit.

Tawang chu river is a beautiful place popular for its monastery. If you want to spot tigers then, Nandapha National park is a must-visit. Siang river is one of the jaw dropping spots for all your Instagram posts.

This place is famous for its Ziro music carnival, a four-day-long music festival where musicians come from different parts of the world. This festival is a paradise for music enthusiasts.


NAGALAND


This mountainous state is a home to diverse tribes and the interesting fact is it is known as the "land of festivals".

One of the famous festivals celebrated in Nagaland is Moatsu festival. This festival is celebrated to take god's blessings and provide entertainment after a hectic process of sowing seeds, repairing walls, cleaning wells etc.

Dimapur, Kohima, Mokokchung, Mon, Wokha, Dzukou Valley are some mesmerizing places of Nagaland.


MANIPUR


Manipur is the "Jewel of India", place of abundant natural beauty and the top educational hub among the states of Seven Sisters. It was once considered a princely state of the British Empire. 

The capital of Manipur is Imphal. This wonderland has charming rivers and panoramic views. 

One of the major festivals of the seven sisters is Cheiraoba, celebrated in the month of April. On the occasion of Cheiraoba, people clean their house, wear new clothes and exchange sweets. This festival is similar to Diwali.
