  OVERVIEW OF SEVEN SISTERS OF  INDIA During independence, initially there were three states, Assam, Manipur and Tripura, but later in 1963, Nagaland was formed, in 1972 Meghalaya was formed, and in 1987 Arunachal Pradesh and Mizoram. The neighboring states of Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland and Tripura are known as the seven sisters. These states acquired the name "SEVEN SISTERS '' due to their interdependence on each other.
